Sony Pictures Classics has set the release dates for Nicholas Hytner’s drama The Lady In The Van, which was just screened at the Toronto International Film Festival to critical praise. The film which stars Maggie Smith, Dominic Cooper, James Corden and Jim Broadbent, will have an Oscar qualifying run on December 4 in New York and Los Angeles and then will start its limited release starting January 15. The film about a man who befriends a transient woman living in her car who parks in his driveway was originally scheduled for December 11, 2015 but was taken off the release by distributor Sony Pictures Classics in July. This is one that SPC is hoping will land Smith an Oscar nom.

The Grand Dame of acting already hasn’t won an Oscar since 1979’s California Suite (Best Supporting Actress) and she won in 1969 for Best Actress in The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie. The Lady In The Van was originally at TriStar and then went over to SPC.
