Jack Kilmer has joined Bella Thorne in the sci-fi thriller EXO to be directed by Stevie Russell. The project is from Radar Pictures (Riddick, Spring Break) and Furst Films (Daybreakers, Let Me In). James Dodson (Chronicle) serves as executive producer.

EXO follows an 18-year-old misfit, graphic novelist Nathan Fletcher, who suspects the mysterious girl next door, Kyra, (Thorne) might be an alien. His suspicions are fueled by a recent increase in UFO sightings, and further exploration leads him to a potentially monumental discovery. Principal Photography is scheduled to start early next year in South Africa. Lotus Entertainment is handling international sales.

Thorne is currently filming Midnight Sun. She plays Katie, a teenager forced to live a literally sheltered life because of a rare illness that makes even the smallest amount of sunlight deadly. Midnight Sun is directed by Scott Speer and written by Speer and Eric Kirsten. It co-stars Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Thorne is also starring with Kian Lawley and Alex Neustaedter in Shovel Buddies, the 2013 Black List script by Jason Mark Hellerman that AwesomenessTV has set up with Film 360. Buddies is about a group of teens who are determined to work their way through a “shovel list” of tasks left behind by a deceased friend. Si & Ad (aka Simon Atkinson and Adam Townley) are directing.

Thorne’s next movie to hit theaters will be Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip, also stars Anna Faris and Justin Long, which opens December 23. It’s directed by Walt Becker and written by Adam Sztykiel.

Kilmer, son of Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley, made his debut in Gia Coppola’s Palo Alto which premiered in Telluride, followed by screenings in Venice and Toronto in 2013. Other credits include Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s The Stanford Prison Experiment which premiered in Sundance and Shane Black’s The Nice Guys, which Warner Bros. is scheduled to release in May 2016.
