Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life was a surprise series pickup in May, flying largely under the radar until it made Fox’s 2015-16 picks with a midseason order. The network now is giving the young ensemble comedy another vote of confidence, ordering seven more episodes. That brings the order to the show from 20th Century Fox Television and The Jackal Group to 13. The pickup comes just as Cooper Barrett was wrapping production on its original six-episode order, allowing the show to stay in continuous production.
Created by Jay Lacopo, Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life, which has reverted to its original title after being announced as The Guide To Surviving Life in May, centers on 26-year-old Cooper Barrett (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Using cautionary tales from his own life, episode by episode, he helps the youth of America survive the ridiculous disaster that is life and love in your 20s. Co-starring in the series are Meaghan Rath as Cooper’s neighbor, Charlie Saxton and James Earl as his roommates, Justin Bartha as his older brother — a married father of two who is constantly popping in to come hang with the fellas — as well as Liza Lapira.
Lacopo serves is executive producing with Gail Berman, Bill Callahan and director James Griffiths.
