Australian newcomer Lauren Esposito has signed on to co-star in New Line’s The Conjuring 2, sequel to the 2013 hit. Details about the character and about the plot are being kept under wraps for now, but the film will see the return of franchise stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren. Esposito was chosen after a lengthy search for actresses held in the U.S., England and Australia.

One of the most successful horror films of all time, The Conjuring made $318 million theatrically in 2013 on a budget of $20 million. James Wan, returning to direct following his success with Universal’s Furious 7, co-wrote The Conjuring 2 with returning screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes, with revisions by David Leslie Johnson. Wan is also producing, along with Peter Safran and Rob Cowan. New Line’s Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter are overseeing the film, which begins production this week in in Los Angeles and London.

Esposito is repped by manager Bernard Kira in the US and Gilchrist Management in Australia.
