CBS and Stephen Colbert continue to draft off of Jon Stewart’s Daily Show finale with a trailer that’s being shown in movie theaters. The erstwhile Colbert Report host wants to make sure moviegoers also watch their smaller screens come September 8, when he takes over the Late Show desk from David Letterman. Colbert is playing to his captive audience in the 30-second clip, in which he (tries to) deploy such theatrical trickery as 3D and CGI. Not unexpectedly, the results aren’t stellar. The trailer is running in AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters and in 35-plus other smaller chains’ screens.
Colbert made an appearance on Thursday night’s swan-song episode of the Stewart-hosted Daily Show, and earlier today he announced that George Clooney will be the first guest on the new Late Show.
By the way, have you noticed that the late-night talker’s key art has a teensy little “The” before Late Show? Maybe that’s to set it off just a skosh from Late Show With David Letterman. Remember when NBC announced The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as the replacement for The Tonight Show With Jay Leno?
