EXCLUSIVE: Laura Linney is making a deal to star with Tom Hanks in Sully, Clint Eastwood’s Warner Bros follow-up to American Sniper. The drama is about Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who became an instant American hero in 2009 when he engineered a miraculous emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after a flock of geese hit the plane just after it took off from La Guardia Airport. His courage under fire saved the lives of all 155 people aboard the plane, who famously crowded the wings waiting rescue.
Linney will play the pilot’s wife in what will be her third teaming with Eastwood after Mystic River and Absolute Power. Aaron Eckhardt will play the co-pilot.
Linney, drawing raves opposite Ian McKellan in Mr. Holmes, just filmed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and will next be seen opposite Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, Jude Law and Guy Pearce in the Michael Grandage-directed Genius. She’s repped by ICM Partners, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Morris & Yorn.
Eastwood will direct the new biopic from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matters, by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.
