NBC is developing House Of The Rising Sin, a multi-generational family drama from Scandal co-executive producer Judy Smith, Image (1) miller-cohn-pic__121102014426__130426170308.jpg for post 483504who was the inspiration for the lead character in Shonda Rhimes’ Washington drama. Written by Jeremy Miller and Daniel Cohn (Entourage), House Of The Rising Sin, from 20th TV, is set against a backdrop of politics and the eclectic food scene and vibrant music of New Orleans and revolves around three generations of a corrupt political family which has controlled the Big Easy for decades. Miller, Cohn and Smith executive produce.

The success of Fox’s Empire has raised interest in sprawling family dramas. Like Empire, also from 20th TV, I hear the clan at the center of House Of The Rising Sin is African-American.

nbc logoMiller and Cohn recently sold a comedy pitch, The Fix, set around the world of rehab and recovery, to TBS. Their Black List original feature screenplay, The Portland Condition, is slated to go into production at the end of 2015 with ShivHans Pictures and Beau Flynn producing.

In addition to serving as co-executive producer on Scandal, Smith also co-executive produces Brain Dead, CBS’ straight-to-series drama for summer 2016 created by Michelle and Robert King.
