“You think that’s a good idea — marching a billionaire into a war zone?” When we last left our bipolar heroine, Carrie Mathison was coming off a disastrous stint as CIA station chief in the Pakistani capital. Picking up where Season 4 of Homeland left off, now she’s done with the agency and trying reconcile things in self-imposed exile in Berlin. She’s toiling as the head of security for a German philanthropist (Sebastian Koch) who wants to visit a refugee camp in Lebanon — nothing can go wrong, da? Meanwhile, there’s a troublesome data hack at the CIA’s Berlin station.
Here’s a look at Season 5 of Showtime’s signature drama Homeland, which rebounded from a subpar Season 3 to score another Drama Series Emmy nom for its 2014 campaign. Multiple Emmy winner Claire Danes, Rupert Friend, F. Murray Abraham and Mandy Patinkin return, alongside a number of series newcomers. Along with Koch, Miranda Otto plays the chief of the CIA’s Berlin ops, Sarah Sokolovic is an American journalist in the German capital, and Alexander Fehling is Carrie’s lawyer boyfriend.
Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon’s Homeland is the first U.S. series to shoot entirely in Germany. Season 5 premieres October 4.
