Disney India will present the Broadway stage version of its animated hit in the two cities, featuring an Indian cast numbering in the hundreds and adding “Indian influences” to the mix, according to an announcement today from the Mouse house.

“This Beauty And The Beast musical will be completely developed locally in India, while retaining the original script and memorable music of the Broadway show,” per Disney. “The production will be in English at 130 minutes in duration, with select shows across Mumbai and Delhi from October to December 2015.”

Disney Theatrical Productions typically licenses to local producers. In this case, the producer is another Disney Co. division, Disney India, whose local creative team will oversee the show for Indian audiences.

The Broadway production opened in 1994, launching Disney’s march to Broadway which was followed by The Lion King, Aïda, Mary Poppins and Aladdin, among others. Currently, there are four productions of Beauty And The Beast playing around the world including tours in North America, Japan and Germany.

“At Disney India, we are always thinking of ways to bring our audiences truly memorable world class entertainment experiences,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, of Disney India. “This pioneering effort to locally produce one of our most beloved Broadway musicals is another example of that ongoing effort.”
