Showtime Networks president was asked today to respond to comments made by FX Networks chairman John Landgraf last week that “there is simply too much television,” with more than 400 original scripted series airing across all platforms this year. “There may be too much good television but there is never too much great television,” Nevins said. “We work hard to create great TV.”

Nevins did take a shot at some outlets who have been aggressively expanding their original footprint with big commitments. “There is a lot of stupid money flying in a lot of directions, giving two-season commitments off pitches. We are in an expansion mode but we are looking for great TV shows.”

Nevins agreed with Landgraf’s notion that “it’s the brands that stand for something that will survive,” as Nevins put it. “I like out positioning.”
