EXCLUSIVE: Coming of age dramedy Holding Patterns has added Christopher Meloni and Marg Helgenberger to the cast, joining Freddie Highmore, Odeya Rush and Haley Joel Osment. The film follows a young man (Highmore) still living at home with his mother and stepfather who sets his sight on a girl (Rush) who works at his local coffee shop. The problem — she has a serious boyfriend. As the two become closer, the line between friendship and romance becomes blurred and they’re forced to examine where their lives are going. Meloni will play Howard, while Helgenberger will play Samantha, Highmore’s mother. Rita Volk, Jake Abel, Taylor John Smith and Gary Ray Moore co-star.

Written and directed by Jake Goldberger, Alex Ginzburg and Tony Lee produce for Let It Play, along with Jim Young for Animus Films. Animus also produced Goldberger’s debut feature Don McKay, starring Thomas Haden Church, Elisabeth Shue and Melissa Leo. Let It Play most recently was behind Hardcore, starring Sharlto Copely and Haley Bennett, produced by Timur Bekmembetov; the action film premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. Let It Play is also developing Crossface, about WWE superstar Chris Benoit, who shockingly killed his wife and 7-year-old son before committing suicide in 2007.

Meloni was just seen in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp, and currently in The Diary Of A Teenage Girl. He’s repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment. Helgenberger can next be seen in the upcoming CSI finale. She’s repped by ICM Partners, Sanders Armstrong Caserta, and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson. Goldberger is repped by Industry Entertainment.
