In a surprising move, VH1 has cancelled its morning lineup of Big Morning Buzz Live with Nick Lachey and The Gossip Table. The decision came as both shows were prepping their new seasons, eyed to start on Oct. 5, and The Gossip Table just hired Perez Hilton as new co-host.
“With pop culture moving ever faster on a 24-7 cycle, we are exploring how to deliver daily topical entertainment to our audience in all day parts and all platforms. We’ll have more news as those plans develop,” VH1 said in a statement to Deadline. “However as part of that process, Big Morning Buzz Live with Nick Lachey and The Gossip Table will not return this fall on the VH1 channel. We want to thank Nick, each of the hosts of The Gossip Table, and the production teams for their hard work and dedication each and every morning.
VH1 launched morning news and pop culture program Big Morning Buzz Live in 2011, with Lachey taking over as host in March 2014. The Gossip Table was introduced in 2013 to fill in for Big Morning Buzz during its summer hiatus and later formed a daily morning block with Big Morning Buzz. Hilton was slated to join returning co-hosts Rob Shuter, Marianne Garvey, Chloe Melas and Delaina Dixon.
VH1 parent Viacom has been under a lot of pressure to improve ratings performance for its cable networks as most of them have been posting double-digit declines. There had been across-the-board belt-tightening and an executive restructuring, with MTV and VH1 recently joining the network group overseen by Doug Herzog. Programs on the two channels are being reexamined following the realignment.
