Will Packer will continue to ride along with Universal TV for two more years. The prolific feature producer and studio have re-upped their overall deal signed in July 2013, keeping Will Packer Production in the Uni fold through 2017.
Packer, who took part in the Produced By Conference in May, is producing the remake of Roots, which will air next year simultaneously on A+E Networks’ History, A&E and Lifetime. He and Universal TV have a pair of freshman series set the upcoming season. People Are Talking, which bows October 15 on NBC, stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Vanessa Lachey, Tone Bell and Bresha Webb as two couples who are neighbors and best friends and can’t help but analyze and obsess about everything. Uncle Buck, the series adaptation of the 1989 feature, stars Mike Epps in the John Candy role and is set for midseason on ABC.
“We are lucky to have such an enthusiastic and prolific producer so engaged in network television,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “Will, Korin and their team truly have their fingers on the pulse of entertaining and fun.” Universal TV President Bela Bajaria added “Will Packer is energetic, passionate, creative and wants to win. He is a collaborative partner, a hands-on producer and is absolutely the best dressed!”
Upcoming on the film side, Packer is an executive producer on Universal’s Straight Outta Compton and his action-comedy sequel Ride Along 2 opens January 15.
Packer is repped by UTA.
