WE tv has ordered Growing Up Hip Hop, a six-episode docu-series from Entertainment One, for premiere in late 2015. The series follows the children of music legends Damon Dash, Rev. Run, Russell Simmons, Master P, El DeBarge and Pep as they try to build their lives and fortunes in careers ranging from music to acting and fashion. Growing Up Hip Hop is executive produced by John Morayniss and Tara Long for eOne along with Romeo Miller, Angela Simmons, Percy Robert Miller (Master P) and Datari Turner. Turner’s Datari Turner Productions is co-producing the series. Lauren Gellert, Suzanne Murch, and Mark Powell are exec producers for WE tv.
Sony Pictures TV is buying a majority stake in Miami-based IMS Internet Media Services, one of Latin America’s largest ad sales and media buying firms in the digital space. Terms were not disclosed. IMS has commercial partnerships with Waze, Twitter, LinkedIn, Spotify, Crackle, iAds and Foursquare, among others. The deal is expected to close in several weeks pending regulatory approval.
Longtime Creative Arts Emmys producer Spike Jones Jr. has been tapped as the 2015 recipient of the Syd Cassyd Founders Award, the Television Academy announced today. Named in honor of the TV Academy’s founder, the award “recognizes Academy members who have made a significant, positive impact on the organization over many years of involvement and service.” The award will be presented during the 2015 Creative Arts Emmys at the Microsoft Theater on Saturday, September 12.
