CW’s The Flash is adding two notable characters from the DC Universe in its second season. Actor Teddy Sears, who was most recently seen on Masters of Sex and Raising the Bar will play Jay Garrick, the guy who was the first DC Comics character to originally call himself The Flash. Garrick is an enigmatic individual who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of a looming danger that he alone can’t stop.

EP Andrew Kreisberg told the Hall H crowd tonight that “Jay Garrick has never been portrayed in live action. Now that we established our Flash, we thought it would be great to bring in the original Flash to create a brand new relationship with Barry.”

Here’s The Flash highlight reel that WBTV screened today at Comic-Con:

Yuck, old people on a CW show, get real ;-) That said, I hear you. And they...

Shantel VanSanten whose credits include The Messengers, The Final Destination, One Tree Hill will be playing Patty Spivot. She’s a recent addition in The Flash lore. Patty is a cop and science enthusiast who is unaware that Barry Allen is falling for her. She is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West this season. EP Andrew Kreisberg said that Patty Spivot’s addition helps “complicate Barry Allen’s love life in Season 2.”

Sears is repped by APA and Vic Ramos Management. VanSanten is repped by Innovative Artists and Leverage Management.

Also revealed tonight by the panel: Wally West, the first Kid Flash and the third Flash will be making his debut. Also, Barry will be battling Zoom, who is faster than The Flash. “We’re really excited about Zoom,” said Kreisberg.

Greg Berlanti, EP for the show said, season two will “pick up a few months later. We deal with the fallout of the cataclysm that happened at the end of the year. As we used the particle accelerator to introduce the metahuman, we’ll be introducing characters from Earth 2 on the show.”

The Flash returns for season two on Tuesday, October 6, at 8/7c on The CW.
