Germany’s Constantin Film and Nicky Weinstock’s LA-based Invention Studios are teaming on The Baby Shower, an R-rated comedy about four women on a weekend getaway gone wrong. Based on Jenni Ross’ original screenplay, the femme film will be rewritten by Legally Blonde, The House Bunny and Expendabelles co-scripter Karen McCullah. Tamra Davis (Billy Madison, Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child) is directing.

Billed as a hilarious and affectionate twist on the baby shower tradition, and in what appears to fit the Hangover/Bachelorette/Bridesmaids genre, the story sees a group of gal pals celebrating their friend’s latest pregnancy. But after a series of misunderstandings, the ladies find themselves stranded in a foreign country and wanted by the authorities.

Constantin’s Robert Kulzer and Margo Klewans will produce along with Weinstock. Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz and Invention’s Whitney Thomas will executive produce.

McCullah recently did a production rewrite on Jackie Chan-starrer Civilian which Pete Segal is directing for Thunder Road and PalmStar Media. She’s repped by Seth Jaret at Content Engine and recently signed with Paradigm. Davis is making a return to features after working in TV and documentaries. She is repped by Verve. Jenni Ross is repped by Haven Entertainment.

Constantin, which is behind the Resident Evil and Fantastic Four franchises, also made 2013 smash German comedy Fack Ju Göhte and is prepping its sequel for the fall. Shadowhunters, based on the company’s Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, will air on ABC Family in 2016.

Invention has the Zachary Levi comedy Man Up at CBS Films and Ed Helms action comedy Epic Fail at Lionsgate along with other feature and TV projects around town.
