MTV’s popular combination of hormonal teenagers and hormonal movie monsters will continue to have issues with the full moon for at least another year. During the show’s Comic Con panel in Ballroom 20 today, series creator Jeff Davis announced the network has renewed Teen Wolf for a sixth season. It simultaneously announced the news on Twitter.
Davis was visibly elated by the show’s success, telling the crowd of dedicated fans that “as long as you keep watching, we’ll probably get to keep making it. So thank you.”
Loosley based on the 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox, Teen Wolf debuted on MTV in 2011 and since then has been a ratings success for the network. During the panel, Davis claimed that the popularity of the show on platforms beyond initial television broadcasts dramatically increase viewership numbers beyond standard ratings, in some cases as high as 8 million viewers for some episodes.
The show’s fifth season began June 29.
