Unite for Strength today announced its slate of candidates for the upcoming SAG-AFTRA elections. Unite for Strength logoIncumbent National President Ken Howard and his running mate Jenny O’Hara, who is running for Secretary-Treasurer, are being joined by Clyde Kusatsu, who is seeking re-election as National Vice President and as president of the Los Angeles local, and Ellen Crawford (ER) and Woody Schultz (Avatar), who are running for office as Vice Presidents in Los Angeles.

“Clyde Kusatsu, Ellen Crawford and Woody Schultz represent the very finest of SAG-AFTRA’s leadership,” Howard said. “They are enormously qualified, and I trust them to lead Los Angeles in the strongest direction possible. As L.A. President, Clyde is a powerful advocate for his constituents. He has his finger on the pulse of the industry, studying the latest tech trends and developments, with an eye toward getting the most for members in negotiations. Ellen is a true champion for rank-and-file members, and her commitment to organizing union work is unequaled. Woody’s leadership in New Media and Performance Capture is unwavering.”

Said Kusatsu, who is perhaps best known for his role in American Pie: “As Los Angeles President, I worked hard to coordinate with the offices of the mayor, congressmen and lobbyists to bring $330 million of tax incentives to California. This has generated more work for L.A. members. Instead of returning to the divisive politics of 2008, UFS is focused on emerging media platforms and how to best monetize them. I’m proud to be running with such dedicated leaders as Ken Howard, Jenny O’Hara and Unite for Strength.”

Kusatsu, Crawford and Schultz will be joined by a diverse group of experienced and new union leaders, including Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul), Gabrielle Carteris (Beverly Hills, 90210), L. Scott Caldwell (Lost), Jon Huertas (Castle), Hal Eisner (FOX11 newsman), Lisa Vidal (Being Mary Jane), John Carroll Lynch (American Horror Story), Elizabeth McLaughlin (Pretty Little Liars)Autumn Reeser (The O.C.), Iqbal Theba (Glee) and stuntman Conrad E. Palmisano (21 Jump Street).Supporters of the slate include George Clooney, Octavia Spencer, Ron Perlman, Betty White, Bryan Cranston, Josh Gad, Rhea Perlman and SAG-AFTRA national board member Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy). “Years ago, some union leaders recognized the dangers of having two separate unions covering the same members doing the same work,” George said. “Decades of fear and vitriol kept the unions apart until Unite for Strength finally led the path to a successful merger. Now it’s UFS leaders who get the hard work done and deliver unprecedented gains.”

The slate also will field more than 100 candidates vying for positions as delegates to the second SAG-AFTRA National Convention, to be held October 1-4 in Los Angeles. Election ballots will be mailed to members July 21 and will be tabulated on August 20.
