The View producers have axed Nicolle Wallace as one of the show’s regular co-hosts but offered to bring back her head on a platter every so often and let it talk, as one of its stable of rotating guest contributors.
File that under With Friends Like These.
The former communications chief for George W. Bush and senior adviser for the McCain-Palin campaign
who famously was played by Sarah Paulson in HBO’s Emmy-winning Game Change was selected as the resident Republican on the show in September. While political insiders wondered what she was smoking when she accepted the clown-car gig in the first place, sources tell Deadline that producers decided Wallace was not a good fit for the show because she did not disagree strongly with the other co-hosts as often as hoped — and was not particularly well-versed on celebrities and things pop culture.
Loosely translated: Wallace was not up to speed on the Kardashians and not shrill enough to be The View’s conservative talking head, which is rich, because being a not-shrill conservative is kind of Wallace’s thing.
Wallace’s future was looking kinda iffy the longer The View put off announcing a re-upping of her one-year contract; news she was out as co-host first was reported by Variety. Look for her to be replaced by, say, former Full House star (and Kirk Cameron sister) Candace Cameron Bure, who recently got into a squabble on the show with one of its newest co-hosts, Raven-Symone, over an Oregon bakery’s refusal to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. Bure said it was not about gay marriage but an issue of “religious freedoms and the freedom of association.” Bure is among those in the running to replace Wallace as a show co-host and is said to be a fave because she has those “strong opinions” and creates buzzy/social-media-friendly moments.
You know, like show Den Mother Whoopi Goldberg, who recently made major social-media moments for the ABC News program with her stunning defense of Bill Cosby against the 40-ish women who have accused him of having drugged and/or sexually assaulted them, in which Whoopi explained, “It’s my opinion, and the American courts agree with me because still he has not been taken to jail or tried on anything. So back off me!”
The show followed up on that bit of punditry this week, when ABC News’ chief legal analyst Dan Abrams sat down with Whoopi for a little one-on-one time, in which he explained to her how “statute of limitations” works in decades-old rape accusations, to which Whoopi marveled, on this ABC News program, that this was the first she was hearing of this, while Abrams gave an Emmy-worthy performance resisting the urge to clomp her on the head with a blunt object. Too bad, because that would have been The View’s buzziest, most social-media-friendly moment yet.
Wallace’s hire last season was backed by show executive producer Bill Wolff, who came from MSNBC, where Wallace continues to appear as a contributor, despite her shocking lack of Kardashian knowledge and un-shrillness. And, speaking of the brain trust that hired this season’s new crop of The View co-hosts — following last season’s disastrous revolving door that saw the exits of on-air talent Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy — here’s how this season’s new crop has worked out: returning Rosie O’Donnell was out after a few months, Rosie Perez announced the other day she’s out at the end of this season, and Wallace, who did not show up on The View today for obvious reasons, is right behind her.

She is way to smart for that show. MSNBC needs to pick her up for Morning Joe, or she would be a great fit on one of the later hours of the Today show. Glad she isn’t going to be on that train wreck. The View needs to be blocked.
In all honesty, allot of people liked watching the previous conservative host because she has a more toned body, was in tight outfits. The producers were aware of this and always had her at the side of the table to attract male viewers. Even when she was annoying she was good to look at.
Wallace could have toned up more, dressed hotter and been more edgy. It would not be hard to find a conservative who’s hotter than any of the conservatives who’s also likable. They just need to look harder.
As for that mindless bible thumper Cameron, yeah, she has the edge, the edge of mindless and imature person who’s inconsideration of other cultures that’s going to get people to turn the channel.
You are nuts. Wallace is extremely attractive, and intelligent to boot. And if ABC wanted another Hasselbeck (a reflexively combative conservative Barbie), then why the heck did they fire her in the first place?
Nothing this show does makes any sense. For example, I knew when The View announced that they were hiring Jenny McCarthy (a more talentless, less likable “personality” this side of the Kardashians is hard to find) that it was a terrible idea. A lot of other people knew it too. And, all too obviously, McCarthy proved to be rancid and the network couldn’t get rid of her fast enough. Rosie Perez was a lot more likeable, but, again, a bad fit. And, again, it was obvious from the beginning.
The point is, The View is always a day late and a dollar short. I honestly think that you could throw a stone on the street, and whomever it hits could be hired to oversee The View. I guarantee that that random person could do a better job of running The View than this lot.
Why is everything about constantly catering to the male gaze? Go tell Sean Hannity to tone up and wear tight outfits. By the way, the person you’re referring to is named Elisabeth Hasselback. Women actually have names and opinions. Better get used to it, Neanderthal.
Says…”Honey Bunny”
I agree with you 100% about that over the top Cameron Bure who turns every hot topic into something Christian. She is not the sharpest tool.
Who are these male viewers The View thinks it can attract just by having a hot female on? This is like Food Network trying to lure vegetarian viewers to Grill It! With Bobby flay by adding a stalk of celery as a co-host.
You got it. I’m one of the ones who is going to turn the channel once that fake-smile moronic and subservient Cameron shows up–worst choice ever. Too bad they had to get rid of someone so intelligent and replace her with this shrill little no-nothing.
I could not agree more ! What is with picking up childhood actresses like Cameron and Ramon ….neither one of them is anything but that…
I agree!! If they add her to the hosting chair I’m done !
What a stupid comment that she should have dress differently….she actually has White House experience and just because she didn’t start fights is no reason to fire her….She made this democrat listen because she delivered her opinion with out standing up with her finger pointing like Elizabeth….But the View has really dropped its standards in my “view”… a bunch of has been child stars and some nice comedian I don’t know….Far reach from any program I have watched in the past….The view will go down in a ball of flames soon…..Whoopi can’t carry the entire show……
Agreed!!
She is already on Morning Joe
Wallace is too smart for The View which has turned into a complete joke. If they hire Candace Cameron, who is a total fool, it will have made the final shark jump. The View will not last more than another year.
There’s a big difference from being smart and being a know it all. Mix that with a shrill interrupting voice and you’ve got Nicole Wallace.
I agree Nicole Wallace is too smart for the show. I would have liked to see her disagree with some of the stupid things coming out of Raven Samone’s mouth. I would like to see her gone.
yea, she too smart for her big britches…
Hello “The View” producers,
It’s okay to let go. Every program has its time. And every program has its end. It’s okay to rest, now. No more struggling. Just let go. *whispers* Just let go.
Too funny NotBrillianSoCancelIt. You alllllmost made me spit my wine out.
“NotBrilliantSoCancelIt”, You could not have say it any better…”Just let go”. I have deleted the view from my recorder. Instead I will record “The Talk”.
I agree with ”it’s time to let go”.
Hey, “NotBrilliant…” regardless of what side you are on in this debate, you bring a fresh air of intelligence here. Just imagine: You wrote two lines that include four uses of
the words “its” and “it’s”… and in each case you spelled the words correctly! I’m not kidding. Today’s generation seems to be sliding into illiteracy.
Correction: IS deplorable.
Amen.
I liked her. Candace Cameron is a nightmare. She is very hateful and stupid so chances are she will get hired
I feel sorry for you. Candace is not hateful, nor stupid. Intolerance is killing this country.
Yes, it absolutely is, and look where it is coming from.
Come on, James…. You can’t complain about intolerance killing this country while defending Candace Cameron.
Nicole wallace is the smartest woman on that panel….get your facts straight…the other are just stand ins….no more view for me….
I agree. Without Nicole, I won’t be watching the View. Time to put the show off the air. Better yet, give Nicole a primary hosting position on a program with substance and intelligent humor. Love Nicole can’t stand the rest, except Whoopi sometimes speaks with a voice of reason. SOMETIMES, RARELY.
Look at Candace & her sainted nobody brother when you talk about “intolerance”, dude.
Candace is a truly horrible person. Please don’t hire the devil
Candace Cameron is hateful like her brother and ABC should not hire her.
I’ve always felt like watching the view was akin to watching something rather harpy-ish. This just confirms the harpy factor was not my imagination. I find it unwatchable TV.
the talk is tons more fun energy
cant take whoopi no mo….
Nicolle Wallace had style and class, so she didn’t belong there.
Agreed. I will miss her.
I agree to good for the view
You said it.
Nicolle has style and class, she gave the show class and intelligence
Insufficiently shrill?” How much shriller would she have to be for you to consider it sufficient?!?
Hasselback
Yes, did they not learn anything from that hire? Cannot watch ir Bure comes to the table.
Well I’ll stop watching the show for sure now.
She and Whoopi are the only ones that I enjoyed listening to.
I agree ! Except I also like Rosie Perez. Can’t stand goofy Michele Collins or self-absorbed Ravin. I don’t think I’ll watch or record the show anymore.
Mistake
when it comes to shrill and illiterate i’d say Rosie Perez had that covered
pretty good. at least Wallace is articulate and educated and can speak off
the cuff. it looks like they are turning The View into The Real.
Possibly – but she was always shrilling over people, panel & guests, and interrupting and semblance of balance, And are we sure she’s so smart?
Why does the show have to have polar opposites sitting at the table? How about putting some intelligent women who know how to discuss topics as opposed to a bunch of women going on about how they “feel” about all these issues? Stop treating audiences like idiots. That’s Fox News’ job.
Big mistake
I agree to good for the view
I may not agree with all of Wallace’s politics, but she strikes me as way too smart for this show.
I agree, Nichole Wallace is well versed in politics and though I am a liberal Democrat I appreciate that she gives a conservative view without the emotional vitriol of Hasselbeck or Bure. Also, like Nichole I could care less about the Kardashian s. What happened to Barbara’s concept of “different women of different ages” of the original cast?
I am the complete opposite of her on everything, and I liked her contributions on the show. Too bad.
Same here! She was doing a great job.
I enjoyed Nicole Wallace on the View. She brought a necessary, intelligent republican “view” to the show. I’m not pleased with this decision; it’s a very bad one, I will miss her. She and Whoopi; very good together. ABC needs to rethink this and keep her. She will grow and only get better.
I enjoyed Nicolle so much, her along with Goldberg are the only 2 worth watching, I am saddened they choose Nicolle to let go. She may be too good for the show……………
Agreed. She and Whoopi were a great match.
I am a democrat and enjoyed Nicole Wallace’s crisp, intelligent views. A republican like Nicole is refreshing. A big mistake ABC. She will only get better and better as she grows in her role there and your ratings will show that. A big, big mistake.
Oh she is plenty shrill, if you’ve ever watched Morning Joe. She is not a stupid woman by any stretch, in fact I think she is one of the most calculating political operatives out there (and doesn’t believe half of what she says).
Sad, as she was a breath of fresh air on an otherwise ho hum show.
Cancel this show already. They offered her to come every so often? So she’ll be one the thousands they’ll have as a 5th Co-Host / Contributor? Dumbest idea I’ve ever heard of. Barbara should be ashamed of herself for selling her 50% ownership of the show. I wish ABC would pull it out of it’s misery or re-hire Bill Geddie as EP now that Mrs. Diva aka Rosie O’Donnell is gone. I hope she NEVER EVER returns as a host. I hope in February ABC announces the expansion of “Good Morning America”.
I actually preferred Rosie Perez and Michelle Wallace. I have been a long time fan of the show, but I am done. They have lowered this to a debate about opinions, with no content as to facts and intelligent dialogue/topics worthy of my time as a viewer.
The constant changing of hosts reminds me of an alcoholic switching from hard liquor to wine to beer all in an attempt to deny that it’s time to throw the towel in. It’s time for ABC to admit they have hit rock bottom. Without the presence of a serious journalist at the center (e.g. Meredith or Barbara), the inmates will continue running the asylum.
Agree!
I was saddened by the news of Nicole not returning next season. The only reason I even watched the show was because of Whoopie, Nicole and Michelle. I think I will go watch Jerry /Springer. BTW I am not a fan of Rosie Perez and Raven Semone
The most intelligent part of the show what are they thinking
Stupid hosts for a stupid audience. Heard they might bring back Sherri Shepherd – nothing she can ever achieve will eclipse thinking the world is flat.
Wow, she was the only one with any legit experience. That show is well past its best-before date anyway.
I will miss her input. I’m glad I stopped watching this show. SMH
Time to pull the plug. Sad that ABC does not value smart and educated. Nicolle gave the show what it needed. Mario Cantone was great when he co-hosted, Raven-Symone brought that young view. Plenty of shows allow for shallow celebrity chit chat. This new View was better. This last season was smart and well worth the watch, and then the tide changed, the ship hit an iceberg, and we need to stop plugging the holes and just let it go. Someone sank this ship, and it was not Nicolle Wallace.
I can’t believe the idiots who call Candace Cameron the devil when she defends GODs Word and people, yet you can call a person who’s transgender a hero,or all the closet racits who constantly make fun of the whites like Whoopie does or alot of other people who seem to scared to be white. We talk about ignorance and racism, what if Whites had a station called White Entertainment Television… Then every black person would be outraged,We need to quit “babying” people because of there poor me attitudes and treat people based on there own individual accomplishments not color. If people have the right to promote being gay, transgender, black,or whatever, then people who believe GODs Word should be allowed to do the same.No one should be forced to accept things that immoral or just plain ignorant. It seems strange how people who either don’t believe in GOD or pretend to can use his word whenever it’s right for them. What happened to our morals and beliefs?!
90% of the TV shows on ALL the channels are White Entertainment Television. The only reason BET came into existence was so that there was someplace on the TV where African Americans could see shows that spoke to them. Things are better but not that great, so quit your sniveling complaints. You aren’t suffering anything. It’s just that you’re so spoiled and selfish and think EVERYTHING should be about you. And you think anything that focuses on someone who doesn’t look like you is a huge crisis. Talk about a poor me attitude, people like you are the worst.
You need to get real. I’m from Ireland where we do not have this problem with black/white relations, at least not to the extent they take it to here. The people I know in the US who are the strongest in their faith and beliefs in God and the Bible and His Word are not White & Fake. They are Black & Real and LIVE WHAT THEY BELIEVE. You need to get your head out of your arse and stop looking at people through colored glasses, be they black or white. My brothers and sisters in Christ are all colors, denominations & races etc., we have a common bond & siblings may argue and disagree but we do try to get over it and live they way God wants us to. So if you have to bring color into your little racial issues then you have a pretty big problem. Not all white people are American or have issues with what color your skin is. You need to get over it.
Dr. Aylagh Mac
Hmmmm…. I believe it’s Ireland that not all that long ago was a country where Protestants and Catholics were killing each other, and most continue to hate each other to this very day. So perhaps the Irish version of ” Brothers and sisters in Christ” is not exactly a work role model. Pot meet kettle…kettle meet pot.
If you knew the history of this particular American show we are talking about, you would realize that comments are not about race, they are in keeping with what Barbara Walters had set up…. To be a cross section and representation of women in America! Bless your heart!
BET sucks eggs.
There IS such a station. It’s called FOX!
Well said!
So true. Thought she was actually bringing it back to where it started
