EXCLUSIVE: Sonoya Mizuno, Jessica Rothe and Callie Hernandez have joined the cast of Lionsgate’s La La Land, Damien Chazelle’s musical film set in contemporary Los Angeles and starring Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as the aspiring actress he falls in love with. The catch: the city that brought them together may tear them apart, as they soon discover that balancing love and art in such a cutthroat climate isn’t easy.

Mizuno, Rothe and Hernandez have been cast as Stone’s three roommates. It has already secured a July 15, 2016 release date.

This is the pic that originally had Miles Teller and Emma Watson in the works to star. Teller and Chazelle had teamed on Whiplash, and the writer-director penned La La Land before that pic, which landed a Best Picture nomination last year and won him the Adapted Screenplay Oscar. But Teller moved on and Lionsgate scooped up Gosling and Stone in April.

Mizuno recently played Kyoko in Alex Garland’s indie sci-fi hit Ex Machina, and this will be her follow-up. She is repped by Stephanie Moy at Luber Roklin Entertainment and Shepherd Management in the UK. Rothe is shooting a role in Gabriele Muccino’s next film Summertime and just wrapped a part in Bart Freundlich’s Wolves. She is repped by Gersh. Hernandez, whose recent credits include the Robert Rodriguez pics Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and Machete Kills, is repped by CAA and Management 360.
