NBC has set September 17 for the premiere of Jeff Dunham: Unhinged In Hollywood, a one-hour special to be taped next month at the Dolby Theatre, site of the Academy Awards. The special, to air from 8-9 PM, will include a performance by Brad Paisley and guest appearances by Chris Parnell and former UFC champion Chuck Liddell in addition to Dunham’s cohorts. NBC says there will be new stand-up bits and behind-the-scences sketches.
Dunham and his sometimes PC-free ventriloquist act — let’s see how that translates into an 8 PM timeslot on broadcast TV and whether he brings Achmed the Dead Terrorist with him — are big business. His Comedy Central specials rank among the network’s most-watched programs of all time (his 2008 A Very Special Christmas Special drew 6.6 million viewers), and his comedy tour has led him to a recently extended stay of his show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
He also has sold more than 7 million DVDs. The NBC show will also end up on Blu-ray and DVD later in the year and will include additional stand-up footage from the special.
Dunham is repped by UTA, Levity Entertainment Group and Morris, Yorn.
