Amy Poehler will star and produce an untitled sports comedy pic from Universal Pictures written by Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. The deal is being set up through Poehler’s Universal-based Paper Kite Productions and Scott Stuber are Dylan Clark are producing through their Bluegrass Films. Details are few but we’re hearing that Poehler will play a once-promising basketball coach who is asked to lead an NBA team under the gaze of a reluctant organization and the pressure of being “the first.”

Paper Kite’s Brooke Posch is executive producing with Barinholtz and Stassen, and Barinholtz will also play a role. Poehler and Barinholtz are also in the cast of Universal’s upcoming Sisters starring Poehler and Tina Fey.

Barinholtz and Stassen wrote the upcoming Central Intelligence starring The Rock and Kevin Hart. They also write for The Mindy Project, the onetime Fox series that will start its fourth season on Hulu this year.

Poehler was in the voice cast of Disney/Pixar’s hit Inside Out and is shooting The House opposite Will Ferrell this fall. That one is about a couple who blow their daughter’s college fund and start a casino in their suburban basement to win back the money – and their kid’s respect. Deadline reported exclusively in February that New Line won a heated auction for the film, committing to a low-$40 million budget for a summer 2016 release.
