Forrest Lucas and Ali Afshar have partnered together to form ESX Entertainment, a production company that will develop and finance three to six commercial projects a year across feature films and digital/TV series.
ESX marks Lucas’ first foray in the film business. He is the founder and owner of Lucas Oil Products, Inc., MAVTV and Lucas Cattle Company, which has naming rights to the Indianapolis Colts’ NFL stadium. Lucas’ cable network MAVTV, which airs motorsports programming, King Of The Cage and a variety of other programs, is available in 50 million U.S. homes.
Afshar is a noted race-car driver who two years ago retooled the BRZ to become the fastest Subaru in the world. In addition, he has a long list of acting credits including Three Kings, The Siege and appearances on JAG and NCIS. ESX takes its name from the auto racing team founded by Afshar. He has raced for Subaru for more than seven years, during which ESX became a 2-time NHRA National & World Champion Team, 18-time NHRA event champion, 2005 Rally America Champion and a world record holder.
Lucas and Afshar’s ESX will house various film, TV and digital labels. Afshar’s pre-existing ESX Productions will fold into the company with its upcoming pic slate that includes the social issue drama The Wrong Side of Right with Lea Thompson, James Remar, Allison Paige and Jayson Blair; coming-of-age story The Wizard starring Jon Voight, William Fichtner, Gabriel Basso and Afshar; and Afshar’s Born To Race franchise which includes the original film, its sequel Born to Race: Fast Track and a TV series.
Afshar serves as producer on all of the above projects.
