The WGA West will have a new president come September. Howard Rodman, the guild’s current VP, and veteran TV writer Joan Meyerson have been nominated to succeed President Chris Keyser, who is precluded by guild rules from seeking a third term. Other candidates still might join the race by petitiion, but expect Rodman — who has been active in guild politics for years — to win in a landslide.

In the other races, Carl Gottlieb, the guild’s current Secretary-Treasurer, will face off against David A. Goodman in the race for Vice President. Expect the popular Gottlieb, writer of Jaws and The Jerk, to win easily.

The race between Marjorie David and Aaron Mendelsohn for Secretary-Treasurer could be a squeaker, if last year’s election is any indication. In the 2014 board race, Mendelsohn beat David by a dozen votes – 964 to 952.

In this year’s board race, 17 candidates have been nominated to run for eight open seats, including incumbents Carleton Eastlake, Patric Verrone, Alfredo Barrios, Jr., Karen Harris, Ari B. Rubin and Billy Ray. The other candidates are Andrea Berloff, Cynthia Riddle, Meredith Stiehm, Mara Brock Akil, Jeff Westbrook, Cole Haddon, Zak Penn, Aaron Fullerton, Courtney Ellinger, Luvh Rakhe and Dan Wilcox.

Ballots will counted September 21.
