It’s been a case of good news, bad news for new ABC drama The Whispers. After a pretty decent Live+same day launch last week (1.5 rating in adults 18-49), the supernatural series grew significantly in Live+3, with its 18-49 delivery rising +53% to a 2.3, the highest summer series premiere in two years, since CBS’ Under the Dome. The horror-tinged drama will have to rely heavily on DVR viewing in Week 2 because it posted a steep Live+Same Day ratings decline. Last night, The Whispers drew a 1.0 in 18-49 at 10 PM, down -33% from last Monday. Its lead-in, The Bachelorette (1.8) was down a tenth.
For a second consecutive week, American Ninja Warrior on NBC (2.0, even with last Monday) topped the night in 18-49 in Live+SD. Last week, The Bachelorette and The Whispers both ended up edging the obstacle course reality series in L+3, finishing as No.1 and No.2 in L+3 with a 2.4 and 2.3 in the demo, respectively.
Still, it’s a very solid performance for American Ninja Warrior, which could set a new series high in total viewers for a second straight week. Its fast national audience, 6.8 million, is a smidgen higher than last week’s 6.778, which went up to a 6.859 million in the finals for a new record.
NBC newbie, The Island with Bear Grylls (1.2) was even with its fast national last week, up a tenth from the final.
Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance (1.1) was down a tenth from its fast national last week, down two tenths from the final.
