At the top of today’s telecast, ABC’s The View introduced Raven-Symoné as a new full-time co-host. A frequent guest host, the actress had been one of the frontrunners for the position left vacant by the recent exit of Rosie O’Donnell.

Goldberg told the audience that a big announcement was coming and then came the news.”Raven-Symoné is now permanent”, Goldberg announced enthusiastically. The newest co-host and actress walked onstage to loud applause, cheers and a shower of confetti, hugging Goldberg as she made her way to the table to take her permanent seat alongside Goldberg, Nicole Wallace and Rosie Perez. “I am so happy to be here,” she said. “I brought gifts for each of you”, she said as he handed each a goodie on plate. She handed Goldberg her favorite — potato chips and watermelon. “Now let’s have some fun” said Raven-Symoné.

In an official release, Raven-Symoné, who toplined her own comedy series for the Disney Channel, That’s So Raven, said, “The Disney Company has made another one of my dreams come true!”

Once a daytime juggernaut, The View has struggled to make the transition following the exit from day-to-day responsibilities of creators/executive producers Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie. Raven-Symoné’s arrival is one of several View hosting news expected over the next few months as, along with The Cosby Show alumna, Goldberg so far is the only existing panelist with a contract for next season. There had been a behind-the-scenes changeover too on, with co-executive producer Brian Balthazar and director Ashley S. Gorman recently departing.

Walters called Raven- Symoné “a welcome addition to The View.” “She is happy, amusing and well informed, and has already brought a unique perspective to the program that has resonated with our audience.”
