Here’s our first look at the sophomore season of HBO’s Sudden Departure series The Leftovers. The show is getting a creative reboot, with a new supporting cast and new location — the little town of Jarden. It’s been more than three years since 2% of the world’s population just up and vanished, Rapture-style — that’s 140 million people, folks. They’re gone from every country, state and city. Except one in East Texas: population: 9,261, departures: zero. And as you can tell from the teaser above, it’s where everybody wants to be. (Dig that old-school radio at the beginning.)
The series created by showrunner Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta went through all the source material from Perrotta’s novel in the first season, so the producers are taking the action out of Mapleton, NY. Southland alumna Regina King is among the new regulars opposite returning stars Justin Theroux and Amy Brenneman. Many of the other dozen regulars from Season 1 aren’t coming back for the 10-episode second go-round, which is in production for a fall debut on the premium cabler.
Take a look at the teaser and tell us what you think.
