Discovery Communications’ network Investigation Discovery said this afternoon it had joined in the race to hunt down Clinton Correctional Facility escapees Richard Matt and David Sweat with a one-hour special. Prison Break: Killers On The Run, premiering Thursday at 9 PM ET. is part of ID’s “instamentary” programming series strand. It’s being produced by NBC News’ Peacock Productions.
“We encourage convicts Matt and Sweat to watch Prison Break: Killers On The Run and turn themselves in to authorities peacefully,” said Henry Schleiff, who is group president of Discovery Communications’ channel portfolio that includes ID network and apparently is very broadminded as to his target audience.
“As our documentary shows, the noose is tightening and you will be found,” he said, around the time CNN was interviewing talking heads about the fact that the search for the two men had “gone cold.”
News broke on the morning of June 6 about the escape of convicted murderers Matt and Sweat from the facility in Dannemora, NY, assisted by at least one prison worker, Joyce Mitchell. ID says the special will explain how the inmates planned the escape, which the network said “seems like a Hollywood movie.” Killers On The Run will include interviews with police officers, investigators and former Clinton Correctional Facility prisoners.
Elizabeth Waller and Lloyd Fales serve as executive producers along with Knute Walker as SVP Production for Peacock Productions. For Investigation Discovery, Sara Kozak and John Cavanagh serve as executive producers.
