It has been more than a year in streaming-service purgatory for fans of Orange Is The New Black, but the return of the Jenji Kohan-created series June 12 on Netflix certainly will show them the wait was worth it. Season 3, as my video review above says, has new emotional muscles and takes a much more ensemble approach to OITNB – and that is a leap in the right direction for seasoned fans and newcomers.
By pulling the spotlight from WASP Piper Chapman, played so well by Taylor Schilling, the multiple Emmy-winning series based on Piper Kerman’s best-selling 2010 memoir finds new perspective and vigor in the halls and cells of Litchfield Penitentiary. Honestly, most shows would kill to have a bench this strong. To that end, Laura Prepon’s Alex is back, but there is a new love or lust interest for Piper. There’s also a new Martha Stewart-like inmate and, of course, Laverne Cox’s Sophia, Uzo Aduba’s Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren, Natasha Lyonne’s Nicky and Taryn Manning’s Pennsatucky – again, characters that easily take the weight.
So take a look at my review of Season 3 of Orange Is The New Black and tell us what you think. Will you be bingeing behind bars this weekend?
