EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Broderick and Chloë Sevigny will star with up-and-coming UK actress Shannon Tarbet in Look Away, a dark comedy being produced by Lucy Barzun Donnelly and Alexandra Kerry of Locomotive Media. Tarbet plays the lead, and Broderick and Sevigny her parents. Andy Delaney and Monty Whitebloom of BigTV! are directing a script by Jennifer Schuur.
Tarbet’s character is an offbeat young woman who is unable to physically see her mother due to a fictional affliction called selective blindness. Alexis Alexanian, Peter Friedlander and Lizzie Nastro will executive produce the film, with New Regency co-financing and exec producing. Production begins June 8 in New York’s Hudson Valley. The relationship between Locomotive Media and New Regency will go beyond this film as they are working out a development deal to hatch more films.
Formed in 2014 by Donnelly and Kerry after their involvement with Grey Gardens and Friends With Kids, Locomotive has several projects on fast track. They include the Rebecca Miller-directed Maggie’s Plan with Julianne Moore and Greta Gerwig, and they’ve partnered with Lea Carpenter on the novel Eleven Days, told through the point of view of a mother awaiting news on her missing Navy SEAL son. Locomotive also launched a UK-based TV company.
“With such a high caliber of talent in front of the camera, in conjunction with Delaney and Whitebloom’s unique visual storytelling style, we are excited to be bringing Look Away to a wide audience,” Donnelly and Kerry said in a statement. “Matthew, Chloë, and Shannon are perfect to complete our inventive vision for this project.”
Broderick will next be seen in the Neil LaBute-directed Dirty Weekend and in Warren Beatty’s upcoming untitled film, and Sevigny just co-starred in the first season of the Netflix series Bloodline and completed the Whit Stillman-directed Love And Friendship before joining Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel.
Tarbet is one to watch here, emerging from the UK. She starred in the one-woman show Edge Of Our Bodies, and starred in the Alan Ball HBO pilot Virtuoso and in the BBC’s The River opposite Stellan Skarsgard. She made her film debut in Patrice Leconte’s A Promise. Broderick is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Tyerman; Sevigny by WME, and Brillstein Entertainment; and Tarbet by Inspire Entertainment and United Agents.
