The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal is joining another high-profile genre series, Marvel’s Daredevil. Bernthal is set to play The Punisher, one of Marvel’s most popular characters, in the second season of the Netflix series. Frank Castle aka The Punisher is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results. Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil, the first of four Marvel series for Netflix, will be released in 2016.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
In Daredevil, blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Bernthal joins Cox and co-stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson as the series transitions to new showrunners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who are succeeding Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.
Marvel’s Daredevil is executive produced by Petrie, Ramirez, pilot writer Drew Goddard, along with Loeb for Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

Netflix is doing for television what Michael Jordan did for basketball. That is a fact.
No they’re doing for television what Las Vegas did for Hollywood: become a dumping ground for over the hill actors and TV shows that no one will pay to see.
Brad Pitt in War Machine? Over the hill? Your assessment in off base.
Stupidiest comment ever, since people actually do pay to watch Netflix.
Over the hill actors on TV shows that no one will pay to see. You mean like the folks who forked their money to watch the Daredevil TV series or one of the most watched cable TV series The Walking Dead?
They chose a TV actor to play The Punisher. You can be a sour grape individual for all I care. Why don’t you go back to watching The Golden Girls.
How about this: they’re proving that “over the hill” actors in age-obsessed Hollywood are nothing of the sort. I guess Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright should have been put out to pasture.
Jon Bernthal? Brad Pitt? Over the hill? Please (though I’ll give you Adam Sandler).
Kevin Spacey, Over the hill?
Wild choice. Get this guy in CAPTAIN AMERICA CIVIL WAR as well–the punisher had a small, funny role in the source material.
I thought he’d make a good replacement for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but this is pretty great too. He’s been great in everything I’ve seen him in and deserves all his post Walking Dead success. Congrats!
Oscar Isaac would be a great (and height-appropriate) Wolverine but I guess he’s already in the same franchise, I can’t keep all these Marvel Universes straight. He’s in the one without Captain America, right?
LOL, wow. Isaac would be a BALLER Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman doesn’t need to be replaced, silly. Wolverine doesn’t age!
Unbelievable casting. Netflix ain’t to be messed with.
Nope, Netflix and Daredevil will bring down televiosion. Its time for new era.
Yeah the home of Adam Sandler will bring down television….lol. Netflix is the same crap, just a different channel.
I always thought he’d make a good replacement for Hugh Jackman whenever the Wolverine role vacated, but this is pretty great too. He’s been solid in everything I’ve seen him in and deserves all his post Walking Dead success. Congrats!
Further proof why we need to do away with that kiddie show Marvel’s Agents of S.*.*.T.L.I.C.K.E.R.S.
They don’t hold a candle’s fart to these kind of shows,
This is what Marvel Television is supposed to be about.

Oh.
WOW!
I was a fan of Daredevil before, but now it’s at the top of my favorite series list. Orange is the New Black, watch out!
Quality pick. Only concerned with the craft of acting. My hat is off. Big congrats.
Meh. I would rather the concentrate on further developing Daredevil and Kingpin rather than bring in another vigilante.
Think of this like a backdoor pilot… Best way to re-introduce Punisher is throw him in few episodes then spin him off to his own series.
I was really hoping Tom Jane would get another crack at the part… but he could be good too. Whenever I look at this guy I always see Lou Ferrigno. I am a little concerned with “No matter how Lethal the results” are they going to make the Punisher a crazed nutjob who cares nothing for the innocent people around him? One of the Punisher’s main beef’s with a lot of the “Super” heroes is how damn sloppy they are.
Awe yea Johns gonna kill it as punisher so pumped
Disappointed not to see Thomas Jane again in this complicated role he so owned.
Jon Bernthal will bring the same intensity and excellence to Daredevil, that he brought to Walking Dead . Good choice Netflix. Can’t wait.
