HBO has picked up Us. (sic), an hourlong relationship drama pilot from Parenthood and About a Boy executive producer Jason Katims. This marks the first premium cable project for Emmy winner Katims, who also recently expanded into the digital space with drama series The Way at Hulu starring Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan.
Created and written by Katims from an original idea, Us. is described as a sweeping examination of the often baffling, sometimes unexpected but ultimately heart-wrenching ways love and human connection can be found today through a vast web of seemingly unconnected people. Katims called writing his first premium cable show for HBO “a dream come true.”
Us. will be produced by Universal Television and Katims’ studio-based True Jack Productions, with Katims and Michelle Lee executive producing.
In addition to developing for television and executive producing NBC’s Parenthood and About a Boy, Katims served as executive producer and showrunner on another series based on a movie, Friday Night Lights, winning an Emmy for writing the finale. Katims also created and served as showrunner on Relativity, developed Roswell for television and worked on Boston Public.
“Jason is one of the most gifted writers working in television or any other medium, and we are thrilled that he will be bringing his unique storytelling talents to HBO,” said HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo.
HBO has lined up three drama pilots from A-level creators/showrunners: Jenji Kohen’s The Devil You Know, Alan Ball’s Virtuoso and Katims Us.
Katims and True Jack Productions are repped by CAA and Ira Schreck.
