‘Grandfathered’ Creator Danny Chun Inks New Overall Deal With ABC Studios

Coming off a very strong development season with two projects going to pilot and one, Fox comedy Grandfathered, picked up to series for fall, The Simpsons and The Office alum Danny Chun has re-upped his overall deal with ABC Studios for two more years. Grandfathered, starring John Stamos as a bachelor who suddenly discovers that he has a grown-up son and a grandchild, marks the first series for Chun, who created it and serves as executive producer/showrunner. The project was developed at ABC Studios, landing at Fox in a competitive situation, with 20th Century Fox TV coming on board to co-produce.

In addition to Grandfathered, which premieres September 29 as Fox’s new Tuesday 8 PM anchor, Chun supervised the writing and executive produced another ABC Studios comedy project that went to pilot, ABC’s Delores & Jermaine starring Whoopi Goldberg.

GrandfatheredAfter a year in Hollywood post college, working odd jobs and writing as much as possible, Chun in 2003 landed a job on The Simpsons where he spent more than six years, rising to co-executive producer. He then decided to switch to live-action comedy, landing a gig on his favorite non-animated series, The Office, where he worked for the show’s last three seasons, rising to co-executive producer/head writer and making his directorial debut.

From The Office, he segued to an overall deal with ABCS in 2012. “I am humbled by ABC’s commitment, and my goal is to earn back their investment thousandfold, every second, until the end of time,” Chun said at the time of signing the original pact. In addition to Grandfathered and Delores & Jermaine, over the past three years Chun also worked on the ABC/ABC Studios series Happy Endings, Hello Ladies and Trophy Wife.

Chun, repped by WME and Price Management, was recently named one of Variety’s Scribes To Watch.
