As Deadline first revealed exclusively more than a month ago, Emma Watson has now been set to star in James Ponsoldt’s adaptation of Dave Eggers’ book The Circle. Watson, in the role Alicia Vikander was recently attached to, stars opposite Tom Hanks as a young woman who is hired for a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.

Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s shingle Playtone is producing along with Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story and Ponsoldt and Walter Parkes and Laurie Macdonald. Image Nation Abu Dhabi is fully financing and will present the film in association with Parkes Macdonald Productions. IM Global is handling international sales on the film. U.S. rights are being jointly repped by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA.

First up for Watson is Disney’s Beauty And The Beast. She is repped by WME, Untitled and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin.
