Alex Marshall has been tapped as chief operating officer of Archery Pictures, the film and TV banner launched by producer Kris Thykier and former Scott Free UK head Liza Marshall last year.

Marshall leaves Warp Films, where he had been COO since 2008 and exec produced many of their productions including Four Lions as well as TV spin-off of This Is England. Most recently he had served as producer on The Last Panthers, a 6-part series for Sky Atlantic and Canal+, written by Jack Thorne and starring Tahar Rahim (A Prophet).

“We’re thrilled to have Alex join our growing team at Archery Pictures,” said Marshall and Thykier. “He is arriving at a key moment for us as we develop projects with some of the UK’s best talent – including Bill Nicholson, Peter Kosminsky, Neil Jordan, Adrian Hodges and Howard Overman. Alex’s deal making experience will be vital in pushing these projects forward.”

Archery principals Marshall and Thykier have steadily put together a formidable slate of projects these past few months. On their slate are the Cote d’Azur-based TV crime drama Riviera with Neil Jordan (The Borgias) set to write, direct and showrun; Mafiya, a 10-part TV series written by Bill Nicholson (Gladiator), about the rise to power of a Russian oligarch, in association with Monumental Pictures; as well as a strategic partnership with Wolf Hall director Peter Kosminsky.

The company is also in post on Ali & Nino, starring Adam Bakri and Maria Valverde, with Asif Kapadia (Amy) directing the big-screen adaptation of Kurban Said’s best-selling Azerbaijan-set novel about two star-crossed lovers. Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons) has written the script, with IM Global handling sales.
