“Sometimes your worst self, is your best self.”  The first words we hear, spoken by Vince Vaughn’s character, hint at the dark mood that prevails in Season 2 of HBO’s crime drama True Detective. We get glimpses of stars Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams, along with a fleeting reference to a missing girl.

Set in Los Angeles this time around, the eight-episode second season revolves around three police officers (Farrell, Kitsch and McAdams) and a career criminal (Vaughn) who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. The cast includes Kelly Reilly, who plays Vaughn’s wife, along with recurring players including Michael Irby, Abigail Spencer , Leven Rambin, Riley Smith, Lolita Davidovich, James Frain, Adria Arjona, Christian Campbell, Michael Hyatt and Yara Martinez. The Nic Pizzolatto-created series premieres June 21.
