Alchemy has acquired North American distribution rights to the Northern Irish postapocalyptic thriller The Survivalist, the debut feature from writer-director Stephen Fingleton. Set in the near future against the backdrop of a vague worldwide calamity, the film centers on a lone man carving out a meager, secluded existence deep in the forest. When a starving woman and her teenage daughter discover his farm, his loneliness drives him to strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board. But the exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement, threatening not only his carefully constructed world but also his life.
The Survivalist stars Martin McCann (The Pacific), Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac Vol. II), and Olwen Fouéré (This Must Be The Place). The film made its debut at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. It’s produced by Wayne Marc Godfrey, Robert Jones, and David Gilbery, with financing by The Fyzz Facility, alongside Northern Ireland Screen, the BFI and Goldcrest. Jeff Deutchman, VP Acquisitions at Alchemy, negotiated the deal with Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers. K5 International is handling International Sales.
