Fox continues its renewals with a two-season pickup of veteran The Simpsons, which has been ordered for Seasons 27 and 28 to reach 625 episodes. Renewals of the groundbreaking animated series have never been in doubt; only renegotiations with the show’s voice cast have provided the only Simpsons drama.
“I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and ‘McDreamy,’ because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction,” Homer Simpson quipped.
Animated series are on a different schedule, and The Simpsons already has 7 episodes in the can for next season. There is no formal word yet, but fellow Fox animated veteran Family Guy also is fully expected to get renewed. The network already picked up its third toon entry, Bob’s Burgers, for next season, as well as live-action comedies New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Last Man On Earth.
This season, The Simpsons is averaging a 2.7 among Adults 18-49 – steady year-over-year in the core demo and total viewers (6 mil). Over 30 days, The Simpsons delivers an average audience of 7.7 million across platforms, up 45% from its Live+Same Day viewership (7.7 mil vs. 5.3 mil).
