Saturday Night Live ended its 40th season last night with a finale hosted by Louis C.K. and musical guest Rihanna, which drew a 3.8 rating in the metered markets households and a 1.8 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. That was up a tick in household and down in 18-49 from last week’s show hosted by Reese Witherspoon (3.7, 2.0). In adults 18-49, the finale matched a season low logged by the October show hosted by Bill Hader.
Last night’s show, which stirred controversy with Louis C.K.’s monologue, also extended the SNL finale downward trend (4.0, 2.1 for last year’s closer hosted by Andy Samberg; 4.7, 2.7 for the 2013 finale hosted by Ben Affleck.)
Still, it has been a solid season for SNL, punctuated by the blockbuster ratings for the 40th anniversary primetime special, which posted a 9.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 26.5 million viewers in Live+3.
