Samantha Bee signed off as a correspondent on The Daily Show two weeks ago, and now here’s the first teaser for her upcoming TBS show. The 40-second spot shows her with champagne in hand, looking at a gallery wall of photos of late-night hosts — all male, natch — and wondering what’s missing. After an encounter with a server that we’re sure you’d rather see than read about, she reminds viewers that she’s “female as BLEEP!” It doesn’t take a seasoned lip reader to decipher the expletive.
TBS announced in March that Bee would be hosting a program on the cable comedy net. That news came a week after it picked up to series a pilot she created with her husband, Jason Jones, in which he’ll star. At the time, Comedy Central said Bee would be “remaining with” The Daily Show. Not the case, obviously, and here we are. In announcing Bee’s solo show, TBS said it was being planned as a platform “to apply her smart and satirical point of view to current and relevant issues.” In addition to hosting, Bee will serve as executive producer on the show, along with Jones. TBS is producing. No premiere date has been set.

Uh oh. Not good. The Daily Show picked the wrong host and should have gone with her and she shouldn’t have gone here.
NO. I hate her segments.
Sooo…maybe don’t watch her show then? Just an idea.
Yes. For some reason a lot of guys aren’t sold on her. I’ve always liked her tho’.
Trevor Noah apparently likes to punch women (see his own tweet about doing just that), is very likely anti-Semitic (over several years, several anti-Israel and anti-Jewish tweets), and, worse, unfunny. Oh, and a joke stealer! Let’s not forget that (confirmed by several SA comics). But, hey, Comedy Central’s gonna stand by him. Greeeat.
Sooo, yeah, Samantha Bee shoulda been the one. I’m looking forward to her show.
Can’t wait. Love Bee. Daily Show f’d up letting her go.
Love her, incredibly funny, can’t wait for this show…
Can’t wait! She’s brilliant.
They were fools to let Bee and Colbert go. Comedy Central has a new strategy – they’re filling The Daily & Nightly Show with correspondents that nobody would ever want to give their own show.
Comedy Central didn’t “let anyone go”. People like Bee and Colbert are creatives that wanted to try other things and no amount of cash flashed could change their minds.
You think they offered her the host seat? Fat chance. After Stewart leaves, I will be watching this instead of TDS if they are in competing timeslots.
And if they’re not, watch Conan. I love Letterman, but Conan’s show on TBS is hands-down the best late-night show. Monologue is always funny, sketches are always odd (and usually funny), and Conan’s a MUCH better joke teller and interviewer since his NBC days.
I was really disappointed that Comedy Central chose to replace both Colbert and Jon Stewart with more guys. When I heard he was leaving, I was hoping for either Samantha or Jessica Williams, but alas, they blew it. It’s long past time that a woman headlined a late night show and Samantha Bee is going to kill it! I can’t wait.
Well to be fair, Samaria Bee has been planning to create the show with her husband for a while now, and Jessica Williams herself said she wouldn’t take the job if they offered it to her. In fact, there was a whole to-do about how people had assumed she didn’t know her self-worth and just needed some coaxing.
