UPDATE WEDNESDAY: There has been a change, and one of the two young actors in the Oil pilot earmarked for recasting, Yani Gellman, may continue on the show. A final decision will be made in the next few weeks after the network and studio see other actors for the role.
PREVIOUS TUESDAY: Add Sunday drama Oil to the list of newly picked-up ABC/ABC Studios drama series that will be undergoing recasting. Toplined by Don Johnson and Chace Crawford, the series examines the biggest oil discovery in American history, which has triggered a geopolitical shift and an economic boom in North Dakota on a scale not seen since the 1849 California Gold Rush. The series will be recasting two series regular characters played in the pilot by Caitlin Carver and Yani Gellman.
Carver portrayed Lacey Briggs, the younger daughter of Hap (Johnson). Gellman played A.J. Menendez, Hap’s personal driver who leads a triple life: He’s not only Lacey’s clandestine lover, he’s a spy for the reigning family of Saudi Arabia as a member of its royal family. And Lacey’s pillow talk gets passed along to the Middle East as soon as she falls asleep.
In addition to Oil, new ABC/ABC Studios drama series that are recasting series regulars include The Catch, which is replacing Damon Dayoub and Bethany Joy Lenz, Quantico (Dougray Scott) and Wicked City (Adam Rothenberg, Darrell Britt-Gibson). Additionally, the ABCS-produced new CBS series Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders is recasting the female lead, originally played by Anna Gunn in the planted spinoff episode of Criminal Minds.
