Miramax has tapped indie producer David Thwaites to take up the new position of VP Film, where he will head the company’s film production and development activities. He will report to EVP Film & TV Zanne Devine.

Thwaites credits include Crouching Tiger II: The Green Destiny, which will premiere on Netflix as part of the streaming service’s foray into film distribution. He also was co-president of production at Phoenix Pictures, where he produced and executive produced films including Black Swan, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, Shanghai, License To Wed, Miss Potter and All The King’s Men.

“We are very excited to boost our growing production and development activities with an industry executive of David’s caliber,” Devine said. “David has great network reach, creative intuition and production savvy.”

Miramax next up has Mr. Holmes in the pipeline, which it is releasing in the U.S. with Roadside Attractions on July 17. It also has The 9th Life Of Louis Drax in the offing.
