UPDATE, WRITETHRU 2:05 PM PT: The BBC’s crime drama Happy Valley prevailed over network cousins Line Of Duty, The Missing and Peaky Blinders at the BAFTA TV Awards tonight in London. The Drama Series win for the breakout Sally Wainwright creation was not a shocker; it had Britain all abuzz last spring (and later aired on Netlfix). A surprise of sorts, however, was found in the Leading Actor category. This was Benedict Cumberbatch’s third time in the race for Sherlock, but the prize ultimately went to Jason Watkins for The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, a Peter Morgan-scripted drama based on the true story of the title character’s false accusation of murder — and the media vilification that followed. Christopher Jeffries, exec produced by Downton Abbey‘s Gareth Neame, also won best miniseries. Check out the full list of winners below:
