Ahead of the June 12 debut of Season 3 of Orange Is the New Black, Netflix has ordered a fourth season of the prison series. This marks 3-for-3 for OITNB, with all of its renewals coming months ahead of the previous season’s premiere.
The Season 4 order of OITNB comes on the heels of the fourth-season pickup for House Of Cards, keeping Netflix’s acclaimed first two original series on the air in 2016. OITNB was created by Jenji Kohan based on the book by Piper Kerman. Lionsgate TV is the studio. Season 1 of the series earned 12 Emmy nominations, winning three including best guest actress in a comedy series, Uzo Aduba. The series’ second season will compete as a drama series.
