ITV has set the cast for three-part drama Midwinter Of The Spirit which is to air on its ITV Encore pay service. Anna Maxwell-Martin (The Bletchley Circle) will play Merrily Watkins, a single mother who isn’t your average country vicar — she’s also one of the few female priests working as an exorcist. David Threlfall (Code Of A Killer) plays Rev Huw Owen, a deliverance ministry tutor and Merrily’s mentor. Also featured are Downton Abbey and Happy Valley’s Siobhan Finneran, Ben Bailey Smith (Law And Order: UK), Leila Mimmack (Becoming Human), Kate Dickie (Game Of Thrones, The Frankenstein Chronicles), Simon Trinder (Dalziel And Pascoe), Oengus MacNamara (Game Of Thrones) and David Sterne (Tommy Cooper). Based on the books by, Phil Rickman, the series will be adapted by Stephen Volk (Afterlife) for ITV Studios. Richard Clark (Doctor Who) is directing with Phil Collinson (Doctor Who) producing. Shooting starts later this month.
Daniel Rodriguez and Mauricio Piccone have been named Co-Executive Vice Presidents of newly launched Endemol Shine Latino. The new Spanish-language division follows the creation of Endemol Shine Group. Rodriguez, who was formerly Shine Group’s Vice President of Sales for Latin America, will oversee all sales initiatives for Endemol Shine Latino. Piccone, who most recently served as Senior Vice President, Endemol Latino, will lead all Spanish-language programming initiatives for the division. Sergio Lazarov, a veteran showrunner and director, has also joined Endemol Shine Latino as Vice President, Production. The Endemol Shine Latino team is based in Miami and covers all Spanish-language sales and production in both the U.S. and Mexico.
Entertainment One Films has promoted Theresa Roberts to SVP, Publicity – Production, International & UK Film. Her new role will be to drive and oversee strategic global publicity campaigns across the slate from production through to distribution. Roberts has headed up film publicity in the UK since 2008, overseeing campaigns on 13 No. 1 movies. She was previously Head of Publicity at Momentum Pictures. EOne earlier this year said it would consolidate its international sales operation within the film production business as it focuses on internally produced titles.
Syfy series Dark Matter is set to premiere in on the Syfy channel in 86 countries shortly following its U.S. debut on June 12. From Prodigy Pictures, Dark Matter is a 13-part drama that follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who are awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they must work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets. The series is created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. It will be available near-simultaneously in Australia, Asia, Central Europe, the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Latin America this summer.
Mance Media has acquired Model Turned Superstar, a new international modeling competition series that challenges models to elevate themselves, change their lives and become a Hollywood Superstar — with a $1M prize to boot. Model and fitness expert April Scott (The Dukes of Hazard, Entourage), Natalie Getz (The Bachelor) and Victoria’s Secret mode Anastasia Kuznetsova are hosts with such models as Alessandra Ambrosio, irina Shayk and Ana Beatriz Barros as guest judges. The six-episode first season also includes a two-hour finale. They will take place in far-flung locales like Hong Kong, Dubai, Bora Bora and the Bahamas.
