McG is  set to direct the opening episode of Shadowhunters, the straight-to-series drama based on Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy ABC Family logobook series The Mortal Instruments, which was recently picked up by ABC Family. McG also will executive produce the series, a spinoff of the 2013 feature film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, alongside writer-showrunner Ed Decter.

Mortal InstrumentsShadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.

Shadowhunters, from the film’s producer Constantin Film, is slated to go into production in May in Toronto.

The project expands McG’s relationship with ABCF, where he recently directed the single-camera comedy pilot Kevin From Work, which has been picked up to series with him executive producing. McG is repped by WME.
