With the fate of NBC freshman The Mysteries Of Laura uncertain, the police dramedy’s Janina Gavankar has booked a pilot, CBS’ untitled hybrid comedy written by former Modern Family executive producer Dan O’Shannon and Peter Warren. Gavankar has been tapped for the regular role of Sabrina, though her casting is in a guest starring capacity as she is regular on Mysteries Of Laura. Gavankar replaces Noureen DeWulf, who was cast last week. The change was made before the pilot’s table read over creative differences.CBS Logo

Directed by Pam Fryman, the ensemble project revolves around a group of friends and family at three different times in their lives. Gavankar plays Sabrina, Andrew’s (Adam Brody) co-worker and good friend at 25, his even closer friend at 40. Tracy Spiridakos, Tyler Labine and Kelly O’Sullivan co-star. The CBS TV Studios pilot is executive produced by O’Shannon, Fryman, Dennis Erdman, Clark Peterson and Eric & Kim Tannenbaum.

Gavankar, known for her work on True Blood, The League and The L-Word, just released her third music video, a re-imagination of Martin Garrix’s “Don’t Look Down” featuring  Usher. She is repped by APA, Sanders/Armstrong/Caserta and Felker Toczek.

The Mysteries Of Laura is on the bubble for a second-season renewal though is considered possibly the most consistent among the remaining NBC drama hopefuls in a tough year for the network’s new series. NBC already has renewed its established series, dramas The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Grimm.
