Building on the corporation’s aggressive acquisitions spree, ITV unit ITV Studios Global Entertainment has taken a minority stake in Alison Owen and Debra Hayward’s Monumental Television. The indie was founded by the Oscar nominated producers as Monumental Pictures last September. The new agreement will see ITVSGE exclusively distribute all television productions from the company.
Owen is the founder of Ruby Film and Television whose credits include features Saving Mr Banks and Jane Eyre, and TV dramas Dancing On The Edge and Temple Grandin. Hayward most recently produced Les Misérables. She was formerly Head of Films at Working Title. Projects on Monumental’s slate include feature How To Build A Girl which is being developed with Film4.
Owen said today, “The international television landscape has changed out of all recognition. It’s not just that the wall between television and film has collapsed, it’s that the digital business has opened up a whole new space that is ready to house drama every bit as cinematic as movies, full of high quality writing and just as attractive to A-list talent.”
