Adina Porter (True Blood) has landed a recurring role on Underground, WGN America’s pre-Civil War straight-to-series drama about the Underground Railroad. The series from Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios follows a group of slaves who plan a daring escape from a Georgia plantation to cross 600 miles to freedom. They are aided along the way by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad, as they evade those tasked with bringing them back — dead or alive.

Porter will play Pearly Mae, a strong wife and mother who first gives voice to the song in which the runners will find clues to help guide them to freedom. Porter, repped by TalentWorks and Bamboo Management, played Lettie Mae Thornton on HBO’s True Blood for seven seasons. She also recurred on The 100 and The Newsroom, and other recent TV credits include The Vampire Diaries, Glee and Grey’s Anatomy.
