NBC comedy Undateable will try to give its renewal chances a boost with a live episode set for May 5, during the period when the network will be making its pickup decisions for next season. There will be separate live productions for both the East Coast and West Coast.
The live episode could bring some attention to Undateable, whose second season premieres tomorrow, giving the multi-camera series a short window to prove itself worthy of a third season. Going the live route would come natural to most Undateable castmembers who are comedians, including Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Ron Funches and Rick Glassman. The cast was a hit at the winter TCA press tour with engaging live interaction.
Undateable, from Bill Lawrence & Adam Sztykiel and Warner Bros. TV, is about a group of close-knit friends living in Detroit, helping one another figure out their lives. The live show will be the penultimate episode of Season 2.
Broadcast series that have done live episodes include The Drew Carey Show, 30 Rock and ER. TV Land recently did it with Hot In Cleveland and spinoff The Soul Man.
